What is the definition of plastic surgery?

The word plastic comes from the Greek root, which means "to give form to" or "to mold." It does not relate in any way to the use of plastic substances. Plastic surgery is a sub-specialty in the field of medicine that helps to heal and restore those individuals who have suffered disfigurement, scarring, or injury as a result of congenital defects, disease or trauma. Plastic surgery takes into account all areas of the aesthetic side of human beings and includes cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgeons correct and enhance features of the body and face that patients may want altered.

Will I be left with scars after the surgery?

Scarring is an aspect of surgery and healing, regardless of what type of surgery you have. In some instances, the plastic surgeon will be able to make incisions in areas that make the scars almost invisible to the human eye. In other instances, this is not the case.
